The day after the successful launch of the NAUTILUS Genset demonstrator, the NAUTILUS project team met at DLR Stuttgart to review key project outcomes and outline the remaining tasks as the project approaches its conclusion at the end of 2024.
The NAUTILUS Genset, launched on October 29 at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart, represents a major milestone and a breakthrough in low-emission maritime power systems. It is designed to be adaptable for various ships for capacities from 1,000 to over 5,000 passengers and can meet a ship’s energy needs from propulsion, maneuvering and from hotel loads to full power, while offering 30% of reduction in CO₂ and 95% reduction in non-CO₂ pollutants emissions.
During the launch event, attendees had the opportunity to explore technical posters presented by DLR, RWTH Aachen, MAN Energy Solutions, SolydEra, and Lund University. These posters detailed the Genset demonstrator’s core components: the SOFC system (SolydEra), the battery and main controller (MAN Energy Solutions), and the control unit for efficient power distribution (RWTH Aachen University). Additional posters highlighted ongoing emission measurement and analysis (Lund University), modular system integration, and performance testing of the Genset under various load scenarios (DLR).
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees toured the demonstration site and engaged in discussions with the project’s main proponents about the Genset's innovative concept and its anticipated impact on sustainable maritime power. Poster presentations and on-site discussions offered participants an in-depth view of the Genset’s design and functionality. The posters are available for download here.
